A Record Blast.
George Cappis

I remember back in the early seventies when one of the main ore passes got hung up, blocked by big slabs of ore. We blasted it to clear it and it took the whole chute out. Workers couldn't get into the mine for two weeks. In fact, it shut the entire mine down for those two weeks. Such a thing only happened one other time in the entire 54 years I worked there. The mines never shut down for any long periods of time. I worked out in the mines from 1941 to 1995, a local record. I was the longest working mine employee and Idarado treated me real good - my retirement now is just as good as my wages were then. Got to keep my medical plan too.
